Ivanti Velocity: terminal emulation and Velocity Web
Key facts

Velocity is Ivanti’s mobile platform for warehousing, shipping and production. According to the manufacturer, the client runs on Android 8.1 or later, iOS 17 or later and Windows 10 and 11, on handhelds, wearables, forklift terminals and kiosk and vehicle computers. Ivanti states that Velocity has been validated with more than 50 device manufacturers. The client is distributed via Google Play, the App Store, the Ivanti download page or an MDM system; you create the configuration in the Velocity Console or directly on the device.
The TE Client emulates IBM 5250, IBM 3270 as well as VT100 and VT220 and, according to the data sheet, supports session persistence, SSL and SSH. Screens can be reformatted automatically on the device, and menus appear as touch buttons. According to the manufacturer, Velocity Web connects to web-based systems without middleware, adapts the display to the screen size and controls barcode scanning and RFID reading. Both can be extended with voice control.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need the TE Client or Velocity Web?
That depends on the host system. If your applications work with text-based 5250, 3270 or VT screens via Telnet, the TE Client is the right choice. Velocity Web is designed for web-based ERP and warehouse applications.
Licence with maintenance contract or subscription?
In the shop, both products are available as a licence with a maintenance contract over 1, 3 or 5 years or as a subscription. The TE Client subscription is billed every 12 months and, according to the shop, has a minimum term of 36 months and a notice period of 3 months. It includes software updates, access to the support portal and handling of requests in German and English.
Does Velocity also run on iOS?
Yes. According to the manufacturer, the Velocity client runs on iOS 17 or later and is installed via the App Store. The shop items mention Android and Windows 10, so we will clarify the licence for iOS devices with you before you order.
Can I replace my Windows CE terminals?
According to the data sheet, Velocity supports the same emulation types as the classic terminal emulation for Windows CE: IBM 5250, IBM 3270, VT100 and VT220. This allows you to keep using your existing host applications on Android, iOS or Windows devices. Suitable devices can be found under mobile computers.
How do I roll out Velocity to many devices?
You install the client via Google Play, the App Store, the Ivanti download page or an MDM system such as Ivanti Neurons for MDM. According to the manufacturer, the configuration file from the Velocity Console can be distributed via any MDM. See Mobile Device Management.
Do the device’s scanner and printers work?
Yes. In the TE Client, barcode symbologies can be enabled individually and controlled via script; according to the data sheet, printing works via VT, TCP, Bluetooth or serial. Velocity Web controls barcode scanning and RFID reading with device-specific scan parameters.
