In potentially explosive atmospheres, only devices with the appropriate approval may be used; a standard device in a protective boot is not sufficient. Outside Ex zones, a standard device is the lighter and more flexible choice. If only some teams enter hazardous areas, a mixed fleet often makes sense: according to the data sheet, the TC78ex-NI uses the tools available for the TC78, which simplifies joint management. Frequently asked questions
What do Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 21 and Zone 22 mean?
Zones 1 and 2 describe areas with gases, Zones 21 and 22 areas with combustible dust. In Zone 1 or 21, an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur occasionally in normal operation; in Zone 2 or 22, it is not likely or only for a short time. The operator defines the zones in the explosion protection document, and the choice of device follows from that.
May I change the battery in the hazardous area?
On the MC9400EX2 and MC9450EX2, hot swap is only permitted outside the hazardous area according to the data sheet. On the SP9, the battery may only be changed and charged outside potentially explosive atmospheres according to the data sheet. For the TC78ex-NI, please follow the operating instructions.
What do IIB and IIC mean on the MC9400EX2?
IIB and IIC are gas groups. Devices for IIC are designed for the most easily ignitable gases and also cover IIB. According to the data sheet, the IIC versions of the MC9400EX2 and MC9450EX2 require additional protective accessories such as a screen protector and leather grip cover, plus a protective case for the MC9450EX2.
