Zebra TC22 and TC27
Key facts

The TC22 and TC27 are Zebra’s entry-level touch computers. Both models share the housing, display, processor, scan engines and batteries. They differ only in connectivity: the TC27 has a 5G modem with nano SIM and eSIM, which makes it suitable for work outside Wi-Fi coverage, such as delivery or field service.
When configuring, you choose between two memory sizes, two scan engines and two batteries. The SE4710 is the standard engine for 1D and 2D codes; according to the manufacturer, the SE55 with IntelliFocus reads from items in hand up to the highest warehouse shelf. The battery is swappable, so the device stays in use while batteries charge. Zebra requires the paid Mobility DNA Enterprise licence for Wi-Fi 6E.
- Retail and stores: goods receipt, price checks, stocktaking
- Small and medium-sized warehouses with scanning within reach or, with the SE55, up to high shelves
- Delivery, service and field work with cellular connectivity (TC27)
- Moving from consumer smartphones to a rugged device with an integrated scanner
- RFID stocktaking with the TC22 RFID or an RFID sled
- Demanding use with frequent drops to concrete from more than 1.5 m or cold below -10 °C: Zebra TC53e / TC58e
- Frequent entry on a hardware keypad and long shifts on one battery: Brady CK62
- Potentially explosive atmospheres: Bartec Ex mobile computers

Both series come from Zebra and run Android, so operation and device management are the same. The TC22 and TC27 suit retail, service and warehouses with moderate wear. According to the manufacturer, the TC53e and TC58e withstand drops of 2.4 m to concrete, work down to -20 °C, have larger batteries and, according to the spec sheet, can be upgraded to Android 17. If your devices are in daily use in the warehouse, in production or outdoors, the TC5 series is the better match. To the Zebra TC53e / TC58e
What OPAL adds
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the TC22 and the TC27?
The TC27 adds a cellular modem for 5G, 4G LTE and older networks, with a nano SIM slot and an eSIM. The TC22 works on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Display, processor, scan engines, batteries and sealing are the same.
How long will the device receive Android updates?
According to the spec sheet, the TC22 and TC27 can be upgraded to Android 16. Zebra delivers security patches through LifeGuard; the spec sheet does not state a period in years. The easiest way to roll out updates is centrally through Mobile Device Management.
Which scan engine should I choose?
The SE4710 is the standard engine for 1D and 2D codes. According to the manufacturer, the SE55 with IntelliFocus reads from items in hand up to the highest warehouse shelf. If your staff regularly scan into high racking, choose the SE55.
Will the battery last a full shift?
Zebra rates the 3,800 mAh standard battery for a full shift and the 5,200 mAh extended battery for multiple shifts. The manufacturer does not state a runtime in hours, as it depends on scan rate, display brightness and radio use. Both batteries are swappable.
Can I read RFID tags with the TC22?
Yes, in two ways. The TC22 RFID has a built-in UHF RFID reader with, according to the manufacturer, a nominal read range of up to 24.4 m. Alternatively, you can extend the TC22 and TC27 with Zebra’s RFD40 or RFD90 sleds. Find out more under RFID.
How does the scan data get into my ERP system?
The integrated scanner passes the data to your Android app or web client. We set up the connection to your ERP system or industry software with you. Find out more under Mobile processes.
